Plan a Trip for the Whole Family
Bring the kids to Guttenberg for a day or weekend trip full of fun! There are plenty of activities that the whole family will enjoy, including fishing, swimming, picnics, making art, and more!
Start your trip to Guttenberg off with breakfast at one of our cafes or restaurants. Try Kaffee 1858 or Sodes Green Acre for the most important meal of the day. From pancakes and omelets to breakfast sandwiches and wraps, you're sure to be pleased. Espresso drinks are also available at Kaffee 1858 (right).
After lunch, head over to Guttenberg Gallery & Creativity Center to create your own masterpieces in their public art studio. Trained staff and volunteers assist you in paint-your-own-pottery, wheel pottery, glass fusion, mosaics, and much more! Once you've had your fill of art making, head over to Joe's Pizza for hand dipped ice cream or Sodes Green Acre for soft serve or Dippin' Dots.

Where to stay: The Court House Inn, Guttenberg Bed & Bath, Annie's Guest House, Rosemary’s Bed & Bath, Welcome Inn Bed & Bath, Reinitz Haus, Dam Dwellings at Lock #10 (all within walking distance of the downtown and the river), the Acre Street Escape, Great River Outdoors Lodging, the Guttenberg Motel, or Street’s Eagle View Motel. Camp at Guttenberg RV Park, Great River Road RV Campground, Miners Creek Hideaway, or Lakeside RV Park and Campground.
A business directory is available online or at the Welcome Center. Once you're fueled up, make your way to the aquarium on River Park Drive to check out the Mississippi River fish, turtles, trout from local streams, and exhibits on river and wildlife topics. Just south of the aquarium is a walkway through native prairie plantings that leads to the DNR handicap accessible fishing pier. Bring your poles and lawn chairs and stock up on bait from Guttenberg Bait, Tackle, and Hunting Shop located next to Murray's Outdoor Store. Fishing licenses are available through Guttenberg Bait, Tackle, and Hunting Shop, Kuempel Hardware, and at the aquarium office.
Stop for lunch or get a carry out from a restaurant, the Farmers Market (open Saturdays, 8-noon, May-October) or grocery store to pack a picnic lunch to eat in the park. Spend your afternoon splashing around at the Guttenberg Swimming Pool or playing tennis or basketball at the courts adjacent. Playgrounds are available on River Park Drive north and south of the Clayton Ridge School, and on Herder Street near St. Mary Immaculate Conception School. Sports fields are also available. Make your way to a restaurant for supper, and make sure to check our calendar for any events going on!
Make plans the next day to ride on the Cassville Car Ferry! Spend some time exploring downtown on foot or bring your bicycles. Enjoy several walking trails, including the Buechel Hill Trail (start at the intersection of Herder St. and Bluff St.), Big Spring Nature Area (head north out of Guttenberg on the Great River Road, turn off is on the left hand side), the Upper Mississippi Bottomland Forest Trail (access near the south marina), and the Ingleside Park riverwalk. |
